Refurbishment
The Works
The ground floor of the Geoffrey Manton Building, Manchester Metropolitan University has undergone refurbishment with Greenmount Projects and architects Bowker Sadler
The initial phase of the project required the demolition of existing rooms and the systematic removal of serveries and furniture. To support the new layout and ensure structural integrity, steel reinforcements were installed. This preparatory work was crucial for accommodating a moving partition wall within the new lecture space, allowing for versatile use of the area. The next step involved constructing partition walls to create a new, efficient layout. This redesign aimed to maximize the utility of the space, offering flexibility for various academic and administrative activities.
Once the structural and layout modifications were complete, attention turned to aesthetic enhancements. All surfaces were made good and finished, including the installation of new flooring, suspended ceilings, and plastered ceilings. The choice of calming tones contributed to a comforting and welcoming environment. Loose furniture and planting were introduced to complement the new space. These elements were chosen not only for their functionality but also to enhance the space's overall ambience.
The Works
Final touches included the installation of blinds, and signage, new projectors and screens ensuring the space was fully equipped for its intended use. These finishing elements were integrated to maintain a cohesive look. A key component of the refurbishment was the upgrade of essential infrastructure. New lighting, power, and data systems were installed throughout the space. Additionally, an air conditioning and ventilation system was implemented to ensure a comfortable and well-ventilated environment.
This refurbishment has successfully transformed the café and administrative areas into a modern, versatile, and inviting area that meets contemporary standards and enhances the user experience. The project stands as a testament to the careful planning and execution required to achieve such a significant transformation.
