Daffodils Dreams Launches 6th Annual Christmas Appeal to Bring Joy and Warmth to Wigan and Leigh Children in Need

by Bronte Reeve

Wigan, UK – December 2024 – Daffodils Dreams is proud to announce the launch of its 6th Annual Christmas Appeal, aiming to spread joy and warmth to children from families in Wigan and Leigh who are struggling to make ends meet this festive season. The Appeal, founded by Maureen Holcroft in 2019, collects donations of nightwear, toys, gifts, and sweet treats to help make Christmas brighter for those who need it most.
As the cost of living continues to rise, many families face financial hardships, and for some, the festive season can feel more challenging than magical. Daffodils Dreams is dedicated to ensuring that as many children as possible have a special Christmas. Maureen works closely with social care, local schools, mother and baby units, NHS teams, and various other organisations across the borough to identify children in need this Christmas.
From the very beginning of the appeal, Daffodils Dreams provided Christmas Eve boxes, bags, and sacks of toys for every child referred to the organisation. However, this effort expanded significantly three years ago through a collaborative approach. For two years, Daffodils Dreams worked with Wigan Council, Greenmount Projects, NHS, and Wigan & Leigh College to extend their reach and provide additional support to families in need.
This year, Daffodils Dreams is proud to collaborate with Wigan Council, Greenmount Projects, and The Brick to ensure the support of families facing the greatest challenges. This partnership allows Daffodils Dreams to provide sacks of toys and gifts, food hampers, and vouchers to every family—up to an allocation of 300—identified as being in high need through Daffodils Dreams and The Brick’s referral processes.
So far this year, Daffodils Dreams has already received referrals for 625 Christmas Eve bags and sacks. The team is working tirelessly to meet the demand and ensure every child referred gets the magical Christmas they deserve.
The community’s overwhelming generosity has been vital to these efforts. Daffodils Dreams recently sent out their ninth vanload of toys and gifts to Santa’s Grotto at Greenmount Projects HQ, demonstrating the incredible support from local donors and businesses.
Maureen Holcroft says - “We are deeply grateful for the unwavering support of our friends, family, local businesses, councillors, and community members who rally behind us every year. This initiative wouldn’t be possible without the continued dedication of each one of you. Thank you for helping us make Christmas a little brighter for so many children.”
The charity welcomes all contributions, no matter how big or small. Every donation of pyjamas, toys, or treats can make a real difference to a child this Christmas.
