The project involved fully refurbishing the Leigh Refectory and adjacent Student Area, with work focused on enhancing accessibility, aesthetics, and functionality. This included structural modifications, new interior installations, and updated electrical systems, all tailored to create a modern and energy-efficient environment.

The work began with cutting through existing partition walls to install black-framed internal windows, adding visual continuity and natural light to the space. Additionally, new glass doors and windows were cut into partitions to create fresh entrances, improving flow and accessibility throughout the area.

In the refectory, a custom-built counter and a movable counter were added, along with bespoke banking seating in the common room. These installations provide flexible seating and service options, designed for various dining, socializing, and informal meeting arrangements.

A dedicated partitioned area was created to house vending machines within the common room, keeping amenities organised and accessible. An adjoining storeroom partition was removed to expand the kitchen, increasing its capacity for food preparation and storage.

General refurbishments included new flooring, ceiling repairs, and redecorating, ensuring consistency across old and new elements. Electrical upgrades introduced energy-efficient lighting and modernised power and data outlets, meeting both sustainability and user experience goals.

Finally, the addition of loose furniture completed the design, adding comfort and adaptability to the refectory and common room, resulting in a refreshed, versatile space suited to current and future use.
