Greenmount Projects successfully carried out a refurbishment project at Liverpool John Moores University (LJMU) as part of the Student Life Building initiative. The project aimed to enhance the functionality and aesthetics of the space while ensuring minimal disruption to ongoing university operations.

The refurbishment included a range of construction and refurbishment activities, covering pre-construction, demolition, electrical and mechanical installations, and final finishes. The construction phase involved the temporary isolation of existing services and the demolition of outdated structures. New electrical and mechanical systems were installed, including modifications to fire alarm and security camera systems. Structural modifications were also carried out, such as the installation of new partitions and ceiling grids, along with fire-stopping measures to enhance safety. The final touches of the project included joinery work, painting, flooring, and decoration. A thorough cleaning process was conducted, including builders and sparkle cleaning, and AV installations were carried out before the final commissioning of mechanical and electrical systems.

One of the key challenges was ensuring that work was completed within the designated timeline while adhering to strict safety and compliance regulations while working in a live enviroment. Greenmount Projects implemented an efficient project management approach, coordinating closely with LJMU stakeholders to minimise disruptions. Regular progress checks and pre-handover meetings ensured that snag rectifications were promptly addressed.

The refurbishment was completed to a high standard, significantly improving the Student Life Building’s infrastructure. The project successfully met LJMU’s requirements for a modern, functional, and safe student environment. The final handover included comprehensive end-user training and the provision of statutory certifications, ensuring a seamless transition to full operational use.
