Refurbishment
The Works
This refurbishment project was undertaken to transform an existing facility into a modern, functional space for animal management training and operations. The project involved the creation of two large classrooms to accommodate both theory and practical areas, along with the addition of a staffroom and an external facility to house the animals.
The initial phase involved extensive demolition, including the removal of partition walls to form larger classrooms and the demolition of a corridor wall to extend the classroom area into a more optimised rectangular layout. To improve access to the external animal pens, aluminium external doors were installed, facilitating smooth movement between the indoor and outdoor areas.
Internally, significant upgrades were made to ensure the facility met modern standards. New flooring and decorative finishes were applied throughout the space, while the heating system was upgraded for greater efficiency. Fire safety was enhanced through improvements to fire stopping and the revamping of the fire alarm system. Additionally, energy-efficient LED lighting was installed, along with new internal fire doors to further increase safety.
The Works
The external pens were constructed using timber, with five pens designated for different animals, along with a large storage area designed for feed and bedding. These pens were equipped with lighting and heating systems, with staff training provided on how to adjust settings for seasonal use or manual power, ensuring the pens were functional year-round.
Bespoke work surfaces and storage units were custom-designed to store animal products and provide wash stations, while new suspended ceilings were introduced to enhance the overall aesthetic and functionality of the space. To maintain high standards of hygiene, powder-coated aluminium hygienic skirtings were fitted, ensuring ease of cleaning and maintenance.
The space was further equipped with new signage and interactive TVs to support training and educational activities. The external pens were also upgraded with integrated lighting and heating, ensuring they were functional in all seasons.
The project was completed with a focus on creating a safe, efficient, and sustainable environment for both animals and staff, providing a versatile space for hands-on learning and animal care. This refurbishment highlights the ability to transform existing spaces into state-of-the-art facilities tailored to meet specific operational and educational needs.
