To convert this unique building into a JD Gyms facility, our Design Team collaborated closely with the client to develop a concept that adheres to JD Gym's brand guidelines; in addition to JD Gyms themselves the collaboration with nominated suppliers was essential to the success of the proposal. This partnership facilitated the transformation into a space that members would instantly recognise as part of the JD Gyms family.
To achieve the JD Gyms DNA, the design team implemented key features such as their distinctive ‘fitness just got serious and ‘bigger better stronger’ signage along with other branded elements throughout. The finishes palette was uniform to that of sites nationwide and aids the zoning of the gym floor with varied wall and floor finishes. The design team also worked closely with our in-house joinery workshop to ensure we achieved the quality and continuity of bespoke items the gyms are used to receiving; items ranging from halo mirror details, sign-up and bag drop units, and changing room vanity.

The project covered a comprehensive refurbishment of the entire building, which included three lower levels and one ground level. The existing rooms were demolished to create an open and modern gym space, featuring new ceilings (both suspended and spray-finished), flooring, and bespoke decorative wall fittings such as wallscapes and mirrors. Significant work was also undertaken to form the men's and women's changing rooms, with new tiling installed throughout the showers and toilets, and bespoke fixtures including vanity units and lockers fitted to enhance functionality and aesthetic appeal.

The electrical systems were upgraded to meet current standards, along with IT, CCTV, intruder systems, and door entry systems were installed. Mechanical systems were also modernised, including the installation of new toilets, sinks, and a comprehensive air conditioning system throughout the building.

A new staffroom complete with a kitchen was created, providing a comfortable and functional space for employees. Additionally, a 24-hour access system was implemented, enabling gym members to access the facility around the clock. This system includes locking of the changing rooms and toilets at midnight, with continued access to accessible facilities. A turnstile was installed at the entrance, ensuring that only those with a gym membership can enter the premises after hours allowing the doors to remain open.
