Refurbishment
The Works
The project scope was to fully refurbish the spaces to create new and contemporary learning spaces for Hair & Beauty students and Floristry students. These were to include extensive bespoke work stations, furniture and housing for large AV equipment, as well as specialist professional lighting (Hair & Beauty space) and water supply/sinks (Floristry rooms).
The refurbishment comprised the conversion of existing spaces into a series of new learning rooms, including a demolition package; the creation of the learning rooms and break-out areas; acoustic glazed partitions; new heating and air conditioning (HVAC); new infrastructure for plumbing; new lighting and specialist lighting; media walls and AV equipment package; new flooring; decoration; FFE (furniture, fixtures and equipment). Designs were developed by our in-house Design Team, in close consultation with the client manager, stakeholders/users, Building Control officer, consultant structural engineers. Designs included bespoke desking, workstations and storage.
The Works
The competence and technical skills of our in-house Design Team were integral to the success of the project, with sign-off from different stakeholders and strategic hold points to allow the college approval process time to assess and comment. The project was delivered in 11 weeks, with 3 of these weeks during college term time with the students also using the parts of the building.
The bespoke work stations, furniture and units were constructed by our in-house Bespoke Joinery Workshop team, working closely with our Design Team to ensure the contemporary designs were fully realised.
A project-specific Construction Phase Health & Safety Plan was prepared and communicated, then implemented by ongoing site supervision, inspections and audits. Health & safety hazards were fully covered in our site specific risk assessments & method statements (RAMS), and the delivery team received detailed Induction to ensure that the hazards were understood and effectively managed.
