Refurbishment
The Works
This project involved a scope of both external and internal refurbishment works of Manchester Metropolitan University’s Chatham Bridge, undertaken within the framework of a revised programme. The project began with a controlled site shutdown, creating a safe environment for subsequent activities. Scaffold inspections were carried out once erected, to ensure the structure’s integrity before any external works commenced.
External improvements began with the installation of insulation, followed by the application of a specialist top coat to improve the building envelope performance. Upon completion, attention shifted to essential works such as external drainage and the reglazing of windows. These were followed by a comprehensive external decoration package, which restored the building’s aesthetic in alignment with its historical character.
Subsequent internal activities included timber floor repairs, sanding, and door adjustments. Decorative upgrades were delivered with the installation of new MDF panels and internal paint finishes. Heating grilles were refurbished and reinstalled during this phase, supporting the conservation and performance of mechanical services.
Following internal finishes, final fix electrical works were completed, including lighting installations. Floors received their final decorative treatments, and blackout blinds were installed, ensuring the space met functional and environmental control requirements.
